Arts & Culture The Significants of Remy Ma Dethroning Nicki Minaj at the BET Awards By niele Posted on June 27, 2017 2 min read 0 0 1,200 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Google+ Share on Reddit Share on Pinterest Share on Linkedin Share on Tumblr For the past seven years Nicki Minaj has reigned supreme at the BET Awards with no real competition or challengers for the crown of BET Best Female Hip Hop Artist Award. Well guess who’s back, the realest in body and rhyme, Remy Ma! Ma came back with a plan, stated her claim and continues to prove and remind a culture just what Hip Hop really is. Nicki Minaj can post all the accolades and charts toppers as she wants that’s POP culture, Hip Hop may be flossy (or Bad and Bougie as they now say) but its also grimy, its gritty it’s a challenge, it’s about the MC and it’s not for the faint at heart. The greatest have been through it Foxy Brown, Lil Kim, Nas, Jay Z, Dre, Tupac, Biggie, Eazy E, Shante’ vs. Queen Latifah, Boogie Down Productions vs. Juice Crew, Ice Cube vs. N.W.A., Kool-Moe Dee Vs. LL Cool J. And just to go H.A.M., Roxanne Shante went after all of the female rappers back in the day (Queen Latifah, Mc Lyte, Yo Yo, Salt-N-Pepa, etc) in one scathing diss called “Big Mama”. Nicki has yet to really respond to Remy Ma, besides hiding behind high profile rappers on mediocre songs and tweeting and Instagram self-proclamations. With the drop of two records aimed a Minaj and hits with Fat Joe; Remy Ma deliberately snatches the award and taunts Minaj in her speech with a rhyme and walks off stage ALL THE UP!
