The NAACP sent Donald Trump a request to speak at this years NAACP Convention back in January. After April D. Ryan tweeted about the non-answered request, the Whitehouse final came back with an answer. Trump declined.

According Ryan this is the first president in over 20 years to decline the invitation. The NAACP will hold its 108th Annual Convention in Baltimore, Maryland and the Baltimore Convention Center July 22nd -26th.

The convention will launch the organizations “listening tour” to gain input from activist, business officials and faith leaders.

The organization has been plagued with leadership issues with Roslyn Brock stepping down as chairman last year and the board of directors voting out Rev. Cornell Williams Brooks has prompted the AME Bishops church to write a letter to the organization regarding what they alleged is a “current path to irrelevancy”.
